What is Cranio Sacral Therapy (CST)?

Cranio sacral therapy is a gentle manual technique pioneered by osteopaths in which the connective tissue (fascia) and bones of the body are manipulated with light touch–about 5 grams of pressure, or the weight of a nickel on your skin. It is non-invasive, although gentle intra-oral work with a gloved hand is often a component.

CST for a newborn can help mitigate the effects of a difficult birth, can improve outcomes for frenotomies for babies with tongue-tie, and can help babies feel more “at home” in their bodies. It can also help alleviate torticollis or “wry neck” (for babies with a head-turning preference), and is a helpful therapy for babies with plagiocephaly. CST during pregnancy can reduce or relieve some of the common discomforts of pregnancy (congestion, sciatica, backache, headaches, etc.) and can improve pelvic mobility and baby’s ability to position well for labor and birth.
